Maybe What We Wanted All Along

This may be the best song I've ever written.
Of course, I feel that way about all my new songs. Still feeling the thrill of composing something and filled with the elation of creation, whatever is newest seems like genius and last month's songs seem old and stale. Will this one stand the test of time and join my favorites like Baked Potato and the Aardvark song? Only time will tell.
I can say this, though: it was fun to write and I have fun playing it. I even threw in a face-melting guitar solo!
Anyway, here you go. You can decide for yourself.

You were here hoping for a horse-backed hero When I came walking with my dog. On a cold summers day down in San Francisco, Walking by the water in the fog. One way or another, we found each other. That may be what we wanted all along. You said you seek adventure, see the world's great place. I said, "How 'bout a nice suburban home? With a big back yard, decent mortgage payments." You said it's far from the seven hills of Rome. But one way or another, we stayed together That may be what we wanted all along. I calm you down, you speed me up; We see a lot of action just the same. Sometimes adventure's just a time together. We took the little chances as they came. You were still searching for some inspiration; I was just trying to pass the time. You were on a quest for some fascination; I crossed the street to try to save a dime. One way or another, we found each other. That may be what we wanted all along. I stopped what I was doing, said, "Hey, where are you going?" You said, "I don't know but you can come along." So we took eachothers' hands walked away not konwing If the way we went from there was right or wrong But one way or another, we stayed together. That may be what we wanted I hope that's what you wanted I know that's what I wanted Alll aaaa-loooonnnng!
